For centuries, the holy land of Araura stood watch over the world of Sereth from the skies above. Powerful, yet peaceful, the Araurans were fully in-tune with the spirits and willingly taught their ways to all who sought enlightenment. Allied with other nations such as the mighty Mursai Empire, this union safeguarded the people of Sereth in times of conflict and strife. However, nothing lasts forever…

One night twenty-two years ago, Araura went silent. Airships from every nation rushed to its last known coordinates, as mages searched for any trace of its whereabouts, to no avail. This event came to be known as The Vanishing. Seven years later, a mysterious darkness laid siege to Mursai. Even the mighty monolith of Mursai was unable to repel the all-consuming evil. After one night of vigorous battle, the mighty empire had fallen. A swirling miasma instantly filled the skies above the empire, giving way to monsters and the wicked alike to prey upon anyone straying for the safety of their towns. The calamity has come to be known simply as The Curse, and Mursai has come to be known as The Darklands.

However, a light has become to shine through the darkness…

A young Arauran woman, Anea Branduill, has been discovered living in The Darklands, and a plan has been hatched to bring her to the island Kingdom of Burgonne. To ensure a successful operation, Burgonne sends its most elite company, The Silver Guard, to retrieve Anea. Unfortunately, the mission falls to ruin as the entire company is single-handedly routed by a mysterious assassin of otherworldly power. Anea is able to escape the massacre with two wounded knights, as the assassin begins a bloody crusade to hunt down the last Arauran throughout the Darklands. Anea devises a new plan to get her and the two knights to Burgonne, one that would take them on a more secret route. For this, she will need to enlist the help of a contractor.

Enter Renzia, a shiftless vagabond doing odd jobs for just enough money to get by, he also happens to be a dear friend to Anea. The wheels of fate are set into motion as Renzia agrees to escort Anea and her party to Burgonne, unable to pass up what will surely be a royal payday. As they begin their journey through The Darklands, the evils responsible for the tragedies of the past twenty-two years are awakening and becoming more potent. This job might be a little too high above his pay grade.

ARAURA is a completely independent production from just me - creator Ray Coffman. All art and animation, including the comics, are all written and drawn by myself. With an art and animation style inspired by classic 90’s and 2000’s dark fantasy anime, and the world-building and lore-crafting of classic tales like The Lord of the Rings, ARAURA is a true passion project. I can’t wait for you to jump into this world and experience the characters, the battles, the world, the history - the journey.
